Finding the Right Fit: Recommending a Content Guide for FieldPulse

This artifact is a recommendation report created as a Style class assignment for FieldPulse, a company specializing in Field Service Management (FSM) software. The report evaluates and compares two existing content guides—Canada Post’s and Mailchimp’s—to recommend which would best serve as a foundation for FieldPulse’s own content guidelines. The project reflects advanced analytical and technical writing skills, focusing on voice, tone, accessibility, and navigation.

Background

The goals of the project included:

  • Analyzing and comparing two content guides to determine their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Recommending a guide that aligns with FieldPulse’s values and communication goals.
  • Providing actionable insights for improving consistency and clarity across FieldPulse’s communication channels.

The deliverable was a professionally formatted report designed to inform FieldPulse’s marketing team.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this project were:

  • To evaluate the voice, tone, grammar, mechanics, and accessibility features of two prominent content guides.
  • To recommend the guide best suited to FieldPulse’s branding needs, focusing on consistency and usability.
  • To present findings and recommendations in a professional, client-ready format.

Outcome

The project achieved the following results:

  • A detailed comparison of Canada Post’s and Mailchimp’s content guides, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
  • A recommendation to adapt Mailchimp’s guide based on its stronger voice, tone, and grammar/mechanics sections.
  • A comprehensive, visually clear report demonstrating technical communication expertise.

Approach

The project began with an in-depth analysis of FieldPulse’s branding and communication needs, focusing on their goals for a consistent voice and tone. Using these criteria, I compared the content guides of Canada Post and Mailchimp, evaluating their organization, language, accessibility, and visual elements.

The report emphasized the importance of voice and tone alignment, ultimately recommending Mailchimp’s guide due to its emphasis on positivity, plain language, and active voice. The report also noted Mailchimp’s comprehensive grammar and mechanics section as a significant advantage. Visual comparisons and clear sectioning in the report enhanced readability and usability for FieldPulse’s stakeholders.

Final Deliverable

The final deliverable was a recommendation report in PDF format, optimized for print and digital use.
